Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 11, 2025
This Privacy Policy explains how the online protractor collects, uses and protects your information. You can use the core tool without an account, or you can sign in and buy an ad-free upgrade. In both cases we try to collect as little data as possible and to be clear about what we do with it.
Information We Collect
You can use the online protractor without an account. In that case we do not collect personal information and your uploaded images, measurements and workspace data stay in your browser's local storage on your device. If you choose to sign in with Google and buy the ad-free upgrade, we store basic account details (such as your name, email address and Google account ID), your subscription status and limited payment information from our payment provider (for example a transaction ID, amount and currency). We never store full payment card numbers. We may also collect anonymous usage statistics (such as page views and feature usage) through privacy-friendly analytics to help us understand how the tool is used.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to run the service and to support you when you ask for help. If you create an account and buy the ad-free upgrade, we use your account details to remember your purchase, show your ad-free status on all your devices and prevent fraud or abuse. If you contact us by email, we use your address and message only to reply and improve the tool based on your feedback. We do not sell your personal information or use it for unrelated marketing. Anonymous usage statistics help us understand which features are most used and where improvements are needed. Your measurement workspace (protractors, angles, images) remains on your device and is used only by you for your own tasks.
Data Storage and Security
Your measurement data, uploaded images and workspace settings are stored locally in your browser using the Web Storage API (localStorage). This data persists between sessions but stays on your device until you clear it. Account and subscription information, as well as basic payment metadata, are stored securely on our servers in a database so we can provide the ad-free upgrade and related features. We use HTTPS for all connections and follow industry-standard practices to protect our systems, but no method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure. If you export your workspace as a file, it is saved directly to your device and remains under your control.
Cookies and Tracking
We use small cookies or similar storage to remember things like your language preference and theme choice (light or dark mode). We may also use privacy-focused analytics to see which pages are visited and which features are used, so we can make the tool better. These analytics are designed to avoid collecting more data than necessary. If you are using the free version of the tool, we may load third-party advertising scripts that can set their own cookies; if you buy the ad-free upgrade, those ad scripts are not loaded for your account. You can control or block cookies in your browser settings, but some features may not work as expected without them.
Third-Party Services
We rely on a few third-party services to run the site. This includes hosting providers, analytics tools, authentication providers (such as Google for sign-in), payment processors (such as Creem for handling your purchase) and, for free users, advertising networks. These services have their own privacy policies and may process data according to their terms. We try to share only the minimum information needed for them to do their job, and we do not sell your personal information to third parties for their own marketing. If you upload images to the tool, they are processed entirely in your browser and are not sent to any third-party image-processing service. Links to external websites (if any) are not under our control, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices.
Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal information you have provided to us (such as email correspondence). You can clear all locally stored data by clearing your browser's local storage. You can opt out of analytics tracking by using browser extensions or privacy settings. If you are in the European Union, you have additional rights under GDPR, including the right to data portability and the right to object to processing. To exercise these rights or if you have questions about your data, contact us at [email protected].
Children's Privacy
Our service is designed to be safe for users of all ages, including students. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The tool does not require registration or account creation, so children can use it without providing any personal information. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will post the updated policy on this page with a new 'Last Updated' date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For significant changes, we may provide additional notice on our website.
